Text Box: On 23 March 2021, the Bank of Russia announced its intention to “upgrade” its banknotes with improved security features and new designs from 2022 to 2025. Upgraded 100-ruble banknotes are expected to be issued into circulation in 2022, 1,000- and 5,000-ruble banknotes — in 2023, 500-ruble banknotes — in 2024, and 10- and 50-ruble banknotes — in 2025.
