Text Box: 	On January , 2001 when the Monetary Integration Law went into effect, the United States dollar was authorized as legal tender in El Salvador (Art. 3).   
	The Law established that both currencies, the dollar and colón (colon) (Arts. 3 and 5) could circulate as legal tender, establishing at that time the exchange rate of 8.75 colons per Dollar (Art. 1).
