CFA (Colonies françaises d'Afrique) and CFP(Colonies françaises du Pacifique) are the currencies created in 1945 for the French colonies in Africa and in the South Pacific. CFP(XPF) was fixed to the USD before 1949 and to the French frank after that : 1 XPF = 5.50 FRF. Now the rate after the devaluation of the frank in 1960 (10 old=1new) and the adoption of the euro in 1999 (6.5597 FRF = 1 EUR) is : 1 EUR = 119.26 XPF. Since 1967 the banknotes are issued by IEOM (Institut d'émission d'outre-mer, "Overseas Issuing Institute"). The notes issued by the previous emission bank : "Banque de L’Índochine" are still redeemable : there were 3 type of notes Noumea for New Caledonia, Papeete for French Polynesia, and Nouvelles Hibbrides for the independent since 1980 VANUATU. |
Not all XPF are shown at the pictures Some of them may have higher collector price. |
